Being a photographer relatively new to the Greenville, SC area, I’m really enjoying checking out all the beautiful parks! My little almost-3-year-old son is enjoying visiting them with me, too. We were at Butler Springs Park in Greenville, SC early one morning, and I couldn’t help but notice all the beautiful, soft morning light coming in through the gigantic trees. The photographer in me immediately knew we had to come back to this park for some pictures! It’s hard to get a 2-year-old to sit still for pictures, but I’m learning all sorts of creative tactics that give him something to look for (usually bugs, squirrels, or snakes… and thankfully we haven’t seen any snakes yet!!), or something to run toward. Another thing I’m learning about photographing children is to keep the shutter speed up and photograph them in motion! My little guy sits still pretty much ONLY when he’s sleeping, so this is a biggie for us!
My family photography style rarely results in sitting a kid down and telling him to “say cheese!” Rather, I prefer to give them instructions, find something interesting for them to look at or experience, talk to them, and snap those split-second moments when they look up with that great big smile that says they are having the time of their lives! The result is real, happy expressions, and those memories that will be treasured for the rest of your lives!
